How To Flashing thl t1
hi i'm dale and i'm marc and together we are the fuji guys. today in this video we'regoing to talk about and also demonstrate the new auto focusfeatures that will be coming to the x-t1 as part of firmware version 4. they'll alsobe built in as standard to the brand new x-t10 we're going to use that to demonstrate thefeatures today. please be aware that this is a pre-production model but we wanted to give you a sneak preview tojust what this can do and how it can change your photography
let's get started as well as improving the phase detection algorithm to allow it to be used in lower light than you'recurrently used to. there's three new autofocus modes that have been added there's a wide/tracking mode, zone modeand an eye detection mode firstly let's talk about wide/tracking how does it work and what can you dowith it? well it's using all the auto focus points available to the camera and with that it's tracking something inthe frame. and it's not just left and
right, it's up and down towards the camera and away from thecamera. so it's a very versatile mode. what would you use it for? well, let's sayit's a train coming across the frame you want to keep the composition the samebut you want the autofocus to keep tracking the frontof the train to get that lovely shot it's a really handy feature to have andthat's exactly what you'd use wide/tracking for zone mode autofocus is kind of like ahalfway house between single af point and the wide/tracking mode
within the camera you can set a five byfive, five by three or three by three box of autofocus points and adjust it to whereveryou want it to be in the frame what this then allows you to do is ifyou're shooting a moving subject as soon as the subject is within that framehalfpress the shutter and then the camera will then lock onto them. itwill then continue to adjust the focus allowing you to get the perfect shot. eye detection, does exactly what it says on the tin.the cameras are using clever algorithms to look for the eyes and whenit does that's where the focus is going to gowhen you press the shutter button. it's really
simple and really easy. and the most important thingto a portrait is getting the eyes sharp so it's a great feature to add-on to the camera. butthat's enough of us talking about these new features it's time to try them out. and it's time for marc to getchanged.. okay, so i just want to talk throughthe settings i'm using today on the x-t10 to shoot marc in his lovely lycra. i've got the camera set to aperture-priority and at f/5.6
that's to give it a bit of depth of field but not toomuch. the shutters going to work automatically within a certain set ofparameters that i've chosen for it i've got it set to iso 200 to 6400, soi'm giving it access to the full range and then from that, i'm going to set the minimum shutter speed to be 1/250 of a second it's going to ensure that when it's infocus the shutter is going fast enough to capturethe shot okay let's quickly go through the wide/tracking. so you can move the focus point around
as you can hopefully see there. and i'm going to select this point right here, i think and what's going to happen is as marc comes into the frame i'm going to half-pressthe shutter button like this and you can see the squaresstart to appear now as he moves across the frame the squares are going to track him, and wheni'm happy with composition i'm going to push the shutter button downall the way and that's going to capture the shot
and that's where the focus is going to be. so let'sgive that a little try now okay here he comes half-press, let the camera work for me lovely see if you can see that hopefully you can see that, i will bring it up onthe screen as well so you can see with better detail it's tracking him really nicely and ilike the way that it's giving an epic look and that's because
i'm sitting down on the ground but i'm.. ..very impressed, very nice. here he comesagain half-press let it track, let it track - very nice! that's really good again see if you can see that, the way that the focus is very smooth, very smooth actually and it just makes it so much easier to keep thecomposition i want and let the focus points
work for me. it's lovely to see. really nice to see that okay, we're just going to talk about thezone tracking so as marc explained earlier you have a selection of focuspoints you have a big five by five box, a three by five and you've got a three by three optionavailable aswell. i'm going to use the three by five and have it set to the middle so thatwe can use all of the phase detection pixels that the camera has access to and with that, what it's going to do is when he comesinto this box it's going to track him
through the box and if i move with him, it'sgoing to continue to focus as well this should be a nice concentrated way of keeping the focus and keeping him nice and sharp. so let'sgive it a try. here it comes we're at 1/500 of a second f/5.6, here comes marc.. lovely. in focus, in focus, in focus ok, impromptu runner coming this way impromptu cyclist aswell
that cyclist was going for it, faster than marc i'd say this is marc's last run very nice, nice one to finish nice and sharp, nice and clear. so there you have it, we hope you found this video helpful and it explained the new x-t1 and x-t10 autofocusfeatures so you were shooting, how did you find it? you know when i usedthe wide / tracking mode i was really very surprisedby it because when i had that shot framed up with you coming along the path, normally i would use the singlepoint autofocus which would be pretty
tricky in that environment because i wouldhave to kind of predict where you were going to end up and then at that moment, take the shot ortry and track it but it wouldn't be as good using the wide / tracking was was really nicebecause i could set where you were coming in and then as you hit the point in thecomposition i really liked i would just take that picture and it was actually really good i didn'tthink that it would be something i would
use so do you think it was something youwould use in your normal shooting these days? you know, i probably would because i do a lotof climbing and although climbing is not a really fast sport, it is a very unpredictable movement sport and if i start on the person before theystart climbing and then as they move about in the framethat's going to be a really good mode to use i'm excited to try it out in thatenvironment. what about zone focusing? well zone focusing, now that i definitely woulduse
to me, it seems like a very similarmethod of focusing as the single point autofocus with the differencebeing that it's a little bit more relaxed. it opens up that area and lets me relax if you like, letting the camera do the hardwork and it definitely seems to focus a lot faster as well so when i'm doing shots of peopleand things like that i've got a lot of confidence that this mode is going to reallyperform for me not so much with sport but certainlypeople in low-light environments with
the extra phase detection pixels, you knowi'm really excited so dale likes the new features we hopeyou will too we've been the fuji guys, thanks forwatching
