before proceeding please do 2 things first please take a lan cable or a cat6 cable second , please put one end of the cable in your router or modem and the other end in your computer i have a modem cum router and i have already inserted the lan cable in my computer now we need to go into the settings of our router click on the search icon type cmd click on the command prompt the command prompt shall open
maximize this window type ipconfig in the command prompt click on enter the settings of your lan or wifi connection are displayed here the important thing to note here is the default gateway this is the default gateway please note the ip address for the default gateway somewhere we will use this later the lan cable is connected with the computer
let's open the browser type the same ip address 192.168.0.1 in the browser and click enter i have a router from cisco and its default gateway has opened you need to login here if you have a user name and password , use them to login when you install a new router you are given a user name and password most people do not change this password if you do not know this user name and password you can search these on the internet let's see how to do this

let's change the password here enter 12345678 as the password click on save settings the password should now have been changed click on setup in the menu on top the password has now been changed this was our network name - aekvik. this is also called the ssid this is the passphrase or the password we have just changed this password
the interface that you are seeing on your screen is for cisco this interface or screen may be different depending on the make of your router cum modem hence you should go into the wireless menu and then into wireless security you can easily change your password there since we have changed our password we will logoff now we are logged off it is important to note that if you want to login again to your wifi connection then you will need to carry out a couple of more steps currently we are connected to the internet via a lan cable
let's remove this lan cable once the lan cable is removed only wifi connections are displayed let's click on our wifi connection click on the connect button a message is displayed that can't connect to this network in the normal course you will not be able to login to the wifi network first you will need to forget this network you will need to enter the new password in your computer otherwise you will not be able to login to this wifi connection
click on network settings our network is displayed here select the network and click on manage wifi settings click on the network aekvik and click on forget this is a very important step . please ensure you remember it. so we have disconnected the connection. let's close the window click on wifi connections available wifi connections are shown and our connection aekvik is also displayed
select aekvik and click on the connect button the first time you try to log into your wifi network after changing the password , it shall give you a prompt once you click connect it shall prompt you to enter your network security key enter the new password here click on next the new password has been verified and we are connected with our network aekvik the last step is extremely important. please ensure you do not forget it you can connect with your wifi connection with your new password easily before we conclude i would like to highlight that the default gateway may not be the same in every pc or computer
