he hasn't been in this car. now he's on themove. he's comfortable in the car, knows what it's going to do, what to expect. now he'son the move. >> mike, he needs to get all he can get. weknow we have that caution coming to lap 25. strategy is going to be tough here today.i just go back to yesterday. it seemed like four fresh tires really hent meant a lot tothese drivers. >> i know it's not atlanta. a similar scenariofor the 24. jimmie johnson was up to 15th when we had the 25-lap caution last week.gordon needs to pick it up a tad, i think. logano the leader. 1.4 seconds ahead of daleearnhardt jr. and kasey kahne. 15 laps complete in las vegas. joey loganoexpanded his lead by .3 of a second behind
dale earnhardt jr. there. kasey kahne, kylelarson and fifth place side by side. here comes jimmie johnson who started seventh againstmartin truex, who started the race in eighth. they're battling for fifth ahead of carl edwards,brad keselowski. matt kenseth and denny hamlin, the top ten. little further back at 15th,tony stewart. against jamie mcmurray. nascar announced in the driver's meeting that theywould waive a competition caution at lap 25. our fox rules analyst andy petree can explainabout the what and the why. >> mike, when they say there's going to bea competition yellow, this time at lap 25, it triggers a rule that says that no one canput fuel in the car until that time. now, if a caution comes out for another incident,cars can come down pit road, they can change
tires and do other adjustments, but they can'tput fuel in. the biggest reason for that rule is to make sure it's even for everybody, thatthe guys maybe that at the back, like jeff gordon would not have an advantage of an earlycaution where they could put in fuel and then take advantage of something they know is comingat lap 25. >> thanks, andy. we often see a competitioncaution when there was inclement weather on the day before or a lack of practice. >> yeah. the reason they're doing this, mike,has nothing do with weather for the tire combination. this is a new tire combination as darrellpointed out. because so many things are new, they felt they wanted to do it here at lasvegas. that this leads us to, we'll have a
big congested pit road. we still have 42,well over 35 of our drivers still on the lead lap. everybody will be to pit road. that canget pretty congested when you get that many drivers at one time.>> you think we'll see -- some people take two, some rights, lefts.some take four? >> i think they'll get four darrell to playit safe. we saw a performance gain because of that yesterday.>> riding with dale earnhardt, jr., who is running in second place. let's go down tomatt yocum for the dale junior performance report.>> a great shot of dale jr. running the bottom. he loves to run the high side. his fathert.j. majors told him, they ventured up top,
could not make any gains in the stopwatch.they told junior, you're better at this point on the bottom. so that's where he's running.his big complaint to his team, the car needs more side bites in the corner. adjustmentsdefinitely coming on the first stop. >> thanks, mike. he's leading on joey logano.cut logano's lead by two laps. >> he could actually use that track bar adjustmentand lower it a skosh and make the car better getting into the corner where he seems tobe having a problem. >> joey logano led every lap of this raceso far. we listened in. >> balance isn't too bad. little bit on theside. about a one-ish. security is a three. about a half three. one and two still snug.>> i talked to joey logano in the race show
earlier this week. he said this is a systemthat he and his crew chief, todd gordon came up with. he can understand when he gives himthe number system. a lot like the doctor asks you how much does it hurt, what's the painlevel? >> the thing about it, i love the way thedrivers can break down a corner. both ends of this track are totally different. whatyou say is happening in turn one may be totally opposite of what's happening in turn three.same thing, coming off two or four. so you got to break it down and be specific.>> about three laps, we'll see the first caution flag of the day. logano already put six carsone lap down. that may slightly ease the congestion on pit road. but not too much. when the competitionyellow waves. here's casey mears under fire
